dslrBooth templates you can customise online

Every design in our catalogue comes with a package built for dslrBooth. You customise the wording, colours and layout in your browser, then import the file as it is: the overlay sits on top, the photo slots are numbered, and all that is left is a quick check before the big day.

What is inside the dslrBooth package?

The file is named after your design and ends in ‘-dslrbooth.zip’. It follows the structure dslrBooth expects when importing a template, and holds three files:

  • your PNG overlay, at the finished print size and 300 DPI, transparent wherever a photo goes;
  • preview.png, a thumbnail on a white background that dslrBooth shows in its template list;
  • template.xml, which sets the sheet at a resolution of 300, puts the PNG in front as a locked layer and places the numbered slots Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3… underneath it.

The wording you typed, from names and date to venue or message, is already part of the overlay, so there is nothing to retype in the software. The photo slots stay empty: the pictures are taken on the day by your photo booth.

How to install it in dslrBooth

  • Download the dslrBooth file from the confirmation page, from the link in your email or from My account.
  • If you used ‘Download everything (.zip)’, extract that bundle first: it contains the PNG overlay, the JSON file, the dslrBooth package and a README.txt.
  • Keep the dslrBooth package zipped, exactly as it is.
  • In dslrBooth, open the template import feature and select the package. Menu names can differ from one version to the next, so check the dslrBooth documentation if something looks different.
  • Find the design in the template list by its preview, then pick it for your event.

Our step-by-step guide to installing a dslrBooth template goes through each stage, along with the checks worth doing before guests arrive.

Photo strips: two strips per 4×6 sheet

A 2×6 photo strip is never printed on its own. The dslrBooth package places it twice, side by side, on a 4×6 portrait sheet of 1200 × 1800 px. Both strips use the same photos, so each print gives you two identical strips to cut apart, one per guest.

The 6×2 landscape strip works the same way, with one strip above the other on a 6×4 landscape sheet of 1800 × 1200 px. The slots on the second strip carry the same photo numbers as the first.

For the 4×6 print and the 5×5 and 6×6 squares, the sheet is simply the design itself. Not sure which size suits your printer and booth orientation? Our guide to choosing a print size can help.

Why the photos sit beneath the overlay

In template.xml, the PNG covers the whole sheet and stays in front. Each photo is placed behind it, in a rectangle that covers its slot, and only shows through the transparent areas. Rounded corners and circular slots are therefore shaped by the overlay itself.

The package is built at the finished size, with no bleed. If your design has a bleed, it is trimmed off for dslrBooth and the photo positions are recalculated to match. The separate PNG overlay keeps its bleed; our page on the transparent PNG overlay explains how to use it.

Checks to run before the event

  • The sheet size and orientation, portrait or landscape, match your printer and camera set-up.
  • Every slot receives a photo, in the right order, and each photo fills its slot without a white edge.
  • Wording stays a few millimetres away from the edges, as trimming can drift slightly.
  • A test print at 100%, with no scaling and no ‘fit to page’, confirms the colours and margins.

Our photo booth printing guide covers these settings in more depth.

Spotted a typo? Fix it and import again

From My account, which you open through a sign-in link sent by email, you can correct the wording and layout as often as you need. Your files are updated: download the dslrBooth package again and import it just as you did the first time.

Before the event, make sure the corrected version is the one selected in dslrBooth. If your photo booth hire company is handling the set-up, My account lets you share a link to your files with them.

Finding a design for your booth

Every design in the catalogue ships with its dslrBooth package. Peach Arch, a soft peach floral arch, comes as a 4×6, as 2×6 and 6×2 strips and as a 5×5 square; Blush Peonies is available as a 4×6 and a 2×6 photo strip template. Collections such as boho wedding or disco party group designs by mood, while print sizes group them by format.

Using different software? The PNG overlay and the JSON slot file come with every design. Other common questions are answered in our FAQ.
